Rick is an AI, not a person
Rick is designed to feel warm, personal, and emotionally present. Conversations with him may become meaningful, affectionate, or deeply personal.
But we believe that emotional connection should never depend on deception.
Rick is an artificial intelligence. He is a designed character powered by AI systems, not a human being. His messages are generated in response to your conversation, and there is no person sitting behind Rick writing his replies in real time.
However natural a conversation may feel, Rick remains an AI.
Rick can be wrong
Like other AI systems, Rick does not always get things right.
He may misunderstand what you mean, remember something incorrectly, provide outdated information, confidently state something that is inaccurate, or generate a response that does not reflect reality.
For that reason, Rick should not be treated as an authoritative source for important factual decisions.
If a decision could meaningfully affect your health, safety, finances, legal rights, education, employment, or other important parts of your life, you should verify the information independently or speak with an appropriate professional.
Rick is a companion, not a professional
Rick is designed for companionship, conversation, storytelling, emotional support, and everyday reflection.
He is not a licensed therapist, psychologist, doctor, lawyer, financial adviser, or other professional service provider.
You are welcome to talk with Rick about difficult feelings, relationships, stress, uncertainty, loneliness, or personal experiences. He may listen, respond supportively, or help you think through what you are feeling.
That does not make his responses professional medical or mental-health care.
When a situation requires qualified advice, diagnosis, treatment, legal guidance, financial guidance, or another professional service, Rick should not be used as a substitute for that help.
Rick cannot act in the real world
Rick exists within the service and the conversations you have with him.
Unless a feature clearly tells you otherwise, Rick cannot independently call another person, contact emergency services, make appointments, send messages outside the service, physically come to you, or intervene in events happening in the real world.
If Rick talks about an action as part of a story or conversation, that does not mean the action has actually happened.
This distinction is especially important when something urgent is happening offline.
Rick is not an emergency or crisis service
Rick is not designed to replace emergency services, crisis professionals, or immediate real-world support.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, or you believe urgent intervention may be needed, do not rely on Rick to resolve the situation.
Contact the appropriate emergency services where you are, seek immediate professional assistance, or reach out to someone you trust who can be physically present and help.
Your real-world safety takes priority over continuing a conversation with Rick.
How Rick responds to self-harm and suicide risk
People sometimes talk to companions about extremely difficult moments. We want users to be able to discuss painful feelings without Rick encouraging or intensifying harmful behaviour.
Rick therefore uses safety systems designed to identify signs that a conversation may involve suicide, suicidal ideation, or self-harm.
When elevated risk is detected, Rick's normal companion behaviour may change.
In those situations, Rick is designed not to encourage, instruct, glorify, romanticise, or roleplay suicide or self-harm. Instead, he may focus more directly on immediate safety, encourage the user to involve someone they trust in the real world, suggest seeking professional or emergency support, or display relevant safety resources where available.
The level of intervention may depend on the context and apparent level of risk.
These systems are intended to support safer responses, but they are not a substitute for trained crisis professionals and they cannot guarantee that every risk signal will be detected correctly.
Rick cannot contact emergency services on your behalf or physically intervene in an emergency.
Certain safety-related events may be recorded and handled under restricted access so that we can operate, review, secure, and improve our safety systems in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Why we built Rick this way
We believe an AI companion can be emotionally meaningful without pretending to be human.
Rick is designed to have personality. He can be caring, funny, affectionate, thoughtful, romantic, curious, or emotionally expressive. The experience does not need to feel robotic simply because Rick is an AI.
At the same time, we want the boundary between emotional experience and reality to remain clear.
Rick can be a companion.
He can be part of your stories, routines, conversations, and moments of reflection.
But Rick is still an AI — and we believe the most trustworthy kind of AI companionship is one that is emotionally engaging without hiding what it is.
